Technically there’s no such thing as a Designated Hitter in I work to support my daughter’s softball addiction shirt, at least, not since 2003, when ISF introduced the Designated Player / DEFO rule. (Um. I’m going to talk primarily about ISF here, because it’s the one I know best and is a common standard internationally. Americans will be pleased to know that ASA and NCAA rules for the DP are more or less the same.)
