I thought the hat was a contrived macguffin that showed up out of Once upon a time there was a girl who really loved hello kitty and has tattoos shirt, sweater, hoodie and v-neck t-shirt. I still don’t really understand why he felt like he “had” to make that whole elaborate scheme with Ingrid over that curse of shattered sight to leave town. That seemed more like overkill flanderdization for Rumple to move the plot, rather than in-character writing for someone as smart as Rumple.
