The railway consists of three main branches-Lhasa to Shigatse, Shigatse to Gyirond and Gyirong to Kathmandu. The Lhasa to Shigatse section has already been completed in 2014 and the section covering Shigatse to Gyirong is under survey. So far, one of the companies has wrapped up the feasibility study of the Kathmandu-Pokhara railway project. China CAMC Engineering Limited, a company that has won the contract for construction of Pokhara Airport, has handed over the draft of the feasibility study to the government.
