When they go to the U.S. they have to pay a bit more attention to social expectations--the U.S. is a much more uptight place. Chinese are quite negative. This applies to mainland China. Holy cow. People are convinced that everything sucks and everything always will suck. I have a hard time understanding this, as I have seen immense progress over the last 25 years, but I hear all the time how hopeless everything is. They also don't really trust other Chinese people they don't know. I trust them more than they trust each other. They tell me not to.
